I’m sure this has been discussed before, but is one better than the other or is their coverage about the same?
Since I’ve been doing more saltwater fishing in “parts unknown”, I am seriously considering adding on the water towing insurance for piece of mind when out of town.

I am a Towboat guy but have heard nothing but good things about both in Charleston. You might base your decision on whether you ever boat any place else. I occasionally boat on the west coast of Florida as well as the Keys and Towboat is a good bit more prevalent down there. As it turns out, the 2 times I have used the service have been in/around Charleston. Both times I received top notch professional service. I have met Steve Little a couple of times and he seems to be a genuinely good person. We’re lucky to have 2 great tow companies i nteh Charleston area.

I’ve been with Sea Tow for over six years now. I chose them back then because I run the river from Columbia to Charleston 2-3 times a year. Back then Sea Tow was the only outfit that would come up the river if problems occurred all the way to the Santee Dam and although they didn’t/don’t have a presence on Santee they would arrange a tow from a local. Have never had to use them but the service provides piece of mind if I need it…

I’ve had Sea Tow for a few years now, never needed them but I see them all over the place out on the rivers etc… gives you confidence when you see them out there so often
even though he probably doesn’t know who I am because I haven’t needed them, Anthony is a regular at our fishing club meetings giving advice etc… good people that keep themselves visible
I used to be on TowBoat. Had a mechanical prob, got towed in OK. Then I hit a mud bank, called them that tide was going down, needed help fast, they routed my call to Maryland. By the time they got there, I was on bone dry sand. Then I got a letter cancelling me for poor boat maintenance and repeat calls. Been on SeaTow ever since, haven’t had to call them, but I’ll bet they won’t think I am in Maryland.

Please contact me in response to your post. There is obviously more to this as no one has ever been cancelled because of two incidents and running aground has nothing to do with maintenance. Although we can not guarantee we can arrive before the tide falls out as we cover from Santee to S Edisto it is doubtful that we were unable to render or unwilling to render assistance. We regularly unground vessels that are high and dry. Remember that unlike other companies TowBoat US gets paid to service members by the Association so it is in BOTH parties interest to pass a tow line. I look forward to hearing from you to discuss further and hear the rest of the story. Both companies in Charleston represent the industry well. Neither are perfect and neither claim to be. I know when Towboat ungrounded me, my entire boat was high and dry. That was after they had to run all the way from Sullivan’s to Bulls Bay on a real dark night. Capt.Woody was nice enough not to laugh about it in front of me. I thought that was a nice extra touch.

Capt Steve has repeatedly gone above and beyond anytime I needed him. He runs an honest business and with each interaction I’m more and more impressed with his and Towboat’s professionalism.
NAClH20: did contact Capt. Steve at TowBoat US. We had a good talk. Turns out my problems happened well before his watch there. I am confident that he he runs a good service, and my past experiences could not occur under his management.
