About a year ago, I saw Greg Waugh at Nakato… He was eating sushi… Imported sushi that is…

Unfortunately, that’s actually the truth…

I don’t doubt it Jason.

I guess after a long hard day of putting recreational fishermen and local businesses out of commission, nothing hits the spot more than some imported seafood from a 3rd world country, who are depleting the fish stocks before we even get to see them…

I’m sure he felt that he “deserved” such a nice treat after doing such a “service” to the citizens of this country…

I say we take all of these “Brains in charge” out on a one way trip to the big blue! Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be that easy, but…

It is really a shame that the way things are going, my kids, who love eating the fish that I catch, probably will not be able to enjoy the fun process of catching, cleaning and cooking fish in the future!!!
I would hate for them to miss out on the experiences and the making of great memories!!

EDIT: I know the “one way trip” comment isn’t a very Christian thought, but it just makes my blood boil… Sorry…

These guys have already dedicated their lives to the fish anyways... There would certaintly be more fish if we had something to feed them! So, in a way, we would be helping them to acheive their dreams...

Ha! I’m all for conservation and proper management!
Heck, the bsb (who will eat ANYTHING) would probably spit them out!
But, I’m sure s’thing else out there wouldn’t mind a bit eating them DBs…

When I went to the SAFMC propoganda show in Raleigh in December, I offered to put together 100 volunteer recreational boats to take any council member fishing. Free research, no strings attached from any port from Charleston to Morehead City.

Not one of them accepted

Squid Row 2
22 Shamrock WA

Flounder Pounder 2
16 Sandpiper Skiff

UPDATE:

After reading Lynnmcd response and becoming just a little more ticked!!

Decided to take the bull by the horns and called the SAFMC today! Had a very lengthy conversation with Kim Iverson Kim.Iverson@safmc.net Public information Officer. Many of you have met her at the public forums and from my meetings/conversations with her she has always been very understanding and professional. In a nutshell here is what I got (please don’t flame if I missed something):

  1. They are in the middle between NOAA and Congress
  2. This ball started rolling with George W. Bush not Obama
  3. They need pictures / videos of what we are seeing not saying
  4. Public input is need for Amend 18a http://www.safmc.net/ on right side
  5. More BSB closures on the horizon
6… They are not interested or cannot go on our boats?

I tried to explain to her what happened to me last Tuesday and her response was do you have pictures / video? I didn’t and she asked for “all” of us to start forwarding pictures / videos of what we are seeing on our trips! She continued to say that all information would be forwarded to the correct department. All pictures / videos should be sent to her email: kim.iverson@safmc.net
After our conversation and discussing everything from fish stocks now vs. fish stocks before closures, fish limits and fish length it appeared to me that perhaps we should all get together on this. My thought is simple: if you look at the occupy wall street movement what is the one thing they lack? A unified goal! Maybe we should start a forum directed at determining our own limits, stocks, length on a all species and submit to the SAFMC and all agencies involved. Heck, invite them to participate here on CF forums! Let’s be honest we all have different ideas when it comes to fish stocks, season etc. so if we can all agree who knows??

Yea, I’m pissed but I’m ready to step up and do something about it!

Lets take em’ fishing!! Enough of this BS! My thought is we should issue a challenge - get a 1/2 dozen boats, take whoever they want and let these guys see it 1st hand! Make this thing BIG - TV, Radio, Congress etc. - if we can’t produce - they win!! If they deny our request - use our video cameras and start submitting video to all party’s involved! You know the motto on CF - if you don’t have pictures it didn’t happen!!

I’m in.

Let’s see…

How many BSB does it take to sink a 17?

It can all be done within a matter of hours and in sight of land off the fabulous coast of Charleston, SC.

As these fish, are like rodents.

And I used to release because I thought they were cute. LOL.

I will give Cupka, Crabtree, Waugh, Lubchenko and anybody else they want to bring along an open invitation to go out with me and see how “few” we can catch! My prediction: 4 people on board, normal fishing day will equal over 100 fish easy!! Any Takers???

If you do get them out there, don’t bring’em back.

Umm, you gonna eat that?

Thousands have died to save my freedom. Only one has died to save my soul!

The reasons they will not go out on a boat with us:

  1. They do NOT care to re-open our healthy fishery

  2. They fear the trip will be a one way ticket to ride

</font id=“quote”></blockquote id=“quote”>

Yeah, but you forgot to answer the fundamental question…

Why does a group of 15-20 need a “Public Information Officer”? I’ve NEVER seen such a SMALL TEAM require a “Public Information Officer”…

Yes, Kim is incredibly nice and professional, but that’s exactly WHY they hired her. She is a professional snake charmer, and you my friend, are the snake. It’s her job to talk to pissed off fishermen, hypnotize them, and turn them into eco-nazis. You start out pissed off, and after 10 minutes, she has you feeling like they are the good guys and are caught between a “rock and a hard place”… Next thing you know, you are sending her Christmas cards and offering her a Venti Moca-latte at Starbucks!

“Rock and a Hard Place”… Ha… What a straight up LIE… That might have a chance of being true if Greg Waugh and David Cupka hadn’t been trying to get large ocean closures in place for the last 20 YEARS… Yes, 20 YEARS…

They have the fundamental believe that the majority of our EEZ (let’s say 90% of fishable waters) should be closed to fishing. The idea is that if they protect 90% of the fish, then the other 10% really doesn’t need to be regulated. Are they declaring some type of radical Jihad against fishermen? No! It’s because these idiots truly believe that is the best way to manage the fishery, and they think we are too stupid and simple minded to see their vision!

They have had this fundamentally radical notion for more than 2 decades and need someone who can sugar coat all of the bad news and answer calls.

D&O - good on you for making the call. Many more need to stand up.

  1. B.S.
  2. Maybe George Bush started the ball rolling but what has Obama’s administration done to fix it??? She sounds like a democrat.
  3. This is the big one. Why do they need pictures from some John Blowhard weekend warrior? What credibility do we have??? Heck, all they had to do was look on this web sight. It is clear the Federal Gov’t does not have a clue on this fishery but what is our State doing??? Where are the State DNR Biologists on this? Do they not have any say so at all? Have they not made any input on this FUBAR?? Surely they can recognize the Black Sea Bass fishery is healthy.

Over the last 5 years or so we have gone through multiple size limit increases, reductions in catch limits and still things are so bad that we can only keep the season open for 5 months with the prediction/warning that further limitations will be imposed on size and catch limits and continued season closures.

What a nightmare!!! It certainly leads you to believe what Skinnee says is true, the health of the fishery has nothing to do with it - they just want it closed.

SkinneJ & Triple,

100% in agreement! BUT - you are missing my point! If they have a Public Information Officer - don’t “WE” have a Public Information Officer? We have to do something - lets be honest when we attend these public forums every fisherman there has a different opinion on the way the fishery should be managed (hence we need a common goal)! Can you imagine having to sit there and listen to all of us ***** for 3 hours! (not without good reason)! I guarantee that if I list the way I think the sea bass fishery should be managed and the way you guys think it should be managed we would be worlds apart! I was thinking that perhaps we could get the moderator here at CF to start a forum for the different species and “perhaps” we could all agree and have a common goal for the fight ahead!! I might be dreaming but we can piss and moan or try a different tactic - what we’ve been doing just Ain’t working and I think we can all agree on that one!

Bush screwed us for sure. The bill is named after another republican Ted Stevens. It is sickening. Of course Bammer ain’t going to do anything to fix it. It certainly doesn’t hurt anything to document our fishing trips and send them to NOAA or the NMFS. I will keep sending money to the RFA, but I have pretty much given up, and my new Mantra is Fried Bass soon.

Bottom line, the federal government monkeys don't know their ass from a hole in the ground.

I would like to see fisheries management turned back over to the STATE where we have more of a say-so in what is going on.

The local state governemnt\DNR does a phenominal job and uses various techniques in fisheries management (not limited to ONLY restrictions and closures). They do all sorts of hatchery stuff, habitat rebuilding, sensible restrictions, education and outreach, etc. Essentially, they use a multi-faceted approach which is VERY effective. They are all sportsman and understand fishing. That’s why they are successful.

SkinneeJ,

Okay we’ve tried the public meeting with SAFMC but my thought is we all have different ideas and all they hear is a bunch of complaining! I think afterwards they just throw their hands in the air and decide to do it their way. If we can choose just one species at a time , come up with a set of rules, regulations, closures etc. and then make them tell us why it wont work!! Strength in numbers!! Everybody here needs to remember the definition of Insanity: doing the same thing and expecting a different result! We’ve got to do something different to get our message out!

SkinneeJ,

Spoke with the guys at SCDNR at length about what is going on- You were spot on! 1st class group of guys that actually understand or at least act like they care.

** Guess what - they would jump at the chance to go fishing or get involved with location data specifics!! One word comes to mind WOW!
