Is it true you can keep them within 5 miles of the coast?
I caught a 15 inch black sea bass up the cooper… Let him go - then someone says you can keep within 5 miles? WHAT??? They everywhere… like rodents… sure there are STUDS out at the 60 and beyond…

Don’t think so. Federal waters start 3 miles out anyway. If DNR stops you with BSB, you’re busted.[:0]

Yep, they are closed now in SC state waters too

But they are not in Georgia:smiley: We just asked this same question of the GA DNR, this week, and they told us that if we caught them inside state waters that they were absolutely legal to keep.

10-4 June. Thanks for the info sells
If Nookie had gonads she would tell the feds to sukk it. The states in the gulf have had seperate regs for red snapper for years. They have been getting boned since 07 I believe. These regs will never go back. BSB’s are going to take over, and phuck up the whole ecosystem due to lack of fishing. They are the rabbits of the ocean.

June 1 is the next opportunity. Looks like the size limit will increase from 12" to 13" - no big deal there. Tell me if I am wrong, but I understand that since they say we exceeded the annual catch limit last year, that has to be deducted from the 2012 ACL and to try to stretch the season out they are considering reducing the limit downward for the current 5 fish to as low as 1 per person???
What they told me in Raleigh was that by moving the min size from 12 to 13 inches, that landings would be reduced by 20%. Seriously…
The genius Greg Waugh stated that by landing bigger fish, landings would decrease by 20%
The season will open June 1 and I believe it will be 3 fish per person. 2013 might not open at all or will start with 1 fish per person
All you need to know about how this group of asslcowns operate can be found by one simple quote from DBAG Roy Crabtree:
Yeah, were doing something wrong, said Roy Crabtree, the fisheries service official in charge of setting the annual catch limit. Were giving (recreational anglers) too many days"
This was his response to the massive explosion of red snapper in the gulf resulting in the shortest season in their history
http://blog.al.com/live/2012/02/shortest_snapper_season_ever.html
Until Roy Crabtree and Jane Lubchenko are removed from any position of influence, we can look towards shorter and shorter seasons with smaller and smaller limits.
If you catch too many fish, it is a problem and the season must be shortened.
If you catch too few fish, it is a problem and the season must be shortened
If you catch too small fish, it is a problem and the season must be shortened
If you catch too big fish, it is a problem and the season must be shortened

The funny thing is that from all of the anectdotle evidence out there, the may be really srewing things up big time. These bass are everywhere, eating everything. The have been getting thinned out for years, and now they are not being preyed upon. It’s called the phucking food chain and these morons don’t believe in it obviously. That’s fine, these regs are just the elephant in the room. There will be plenty of fried bass to be eaten, as soon as spring rolls around.
RedStripe,
Went out last Tuesday for Triggers and must admit what I saw really concerned me:
Nearly every BSB we caught, large (biggest ever) and small (60-80 w/ 2 people) had crabs, shrimp and sea cucumbers hanging out their mouth - along with our baits!! It appears they are destroying their own environment.

I get so worked up up over this issue and say ■■■■■ I should keep to myself. I know that, and I apologize to some I may pizz off. I just see the as the biggest screwing that our government hasever put on a subset of it’s citizens. These people are making laws with absolutely zero science to back it up. If one of these clods went fishing on one of our boats, to some of the great spots we all fish then they would see what we do. Of course if we would catch 250 bsb’s, they would say we should have caught 500. These fish are everywhere, and is man not part of the food chain…?? When I say it could disrupt the natural course of what we have all known for our lifetimes, I am serious. I am no scientist but I do believe what I see with my own eyes, and that is a more than abundant amount of these fish.

Redstripe, don’t apologize everyone should be this upset.
RedStripe,
Gut Wrench is 100% correct! I’m pissed off too - the healthiest fishery of all and they continue to pull numbers out of their A$$ that it is being over-fished!!!
I will give Cupka, Crabtree, Waugh, Lubchenko and anybody else they want to bring along an open invitation to go out with me and see how “few” we can catch! My prediction: 4 people on board, normal fishing day will equal over 100 fish easy!! Any Takers???

That would have to be at least 100 per person, easy!
The last nearshore sheepshead trip that I went on a couple of weeks ago, we were catching bsb on bare hooks! I got tired of feeding the fiddlers to them, so I just dropped down naked and would bring two up at a time, one on the hook, and then one on the egg sinker! Plus, there were more that would follow the others up!! We were catching 18" green knotheads well in sight of land!! It is crazy, the three of us, that day, had to catch at least a few hundred( no exaggeration). I even have a video, on FB, of one of the other fellows on the boat dropping the bare hook down and getting nailed as soon as it got close to the bottom, and then bringing the bsb up. They know they are wrong and that the fishery is fine (except now the bsb are taking over), it all has to do with greed and the all mighty dollar!!

Lynnmcd,
Lets take em’ fishing!! Enough of this BS! My thought is we should issue a challenge - get a 1/2 dozen boats, take whoever they want and let these guys see it 1st hand! Make this thing BIG - TV, Radio, Congress etc. - if we can’t produce - they win!! If they deny our request - use our video cameras and start submitting video to all party’s involved! You know the motto on CF - if you don’t have pictures it didn’t happen!!

Sounds good!! You and some others have boats big enough for that! I would be happy to join in. We could show them that they can be caught from the jetties on out past 120’. Ya never know, it may do some good! Ya have to swing the bat in order to hit the ball, so it would be worth a shot, IMO…
