Headed back out this morning, this time with the whole family. We all caught fish, but my wife was the big winner. She caught: lots of spot & croaker, a stingray, oyster toad, pinfish, black drum, whiting, bluefish, a slot redfish, undersized flounder, and a nice sea trout. I can’t believe she didnt catch a shark. What a slacker.
Everything was caught on a Carolina rig with a #2 gold hook. Bait was mostly frozen shrimp but a few were caught on cut frozen mullet.
Tight lines!
Noooooooo…she just didn’t want to totally humiliate you :). We girls know when to back off and take it a little easy and leave y’all with a little pride ;). Sounds like a great day!

Good fishing bud. Glad to hear they’re biting well for y’all.
We’ve been putting that Rod Huki to some serious use down here!
Thanks Chris. Glad you’ve found it useful. I wish I had the opportunity to catch more fish that needed one. We stopped in at SeaBase back in April and I was hoping to be able to say hello, but you and Hoover were both out on the water. We’ll be back again next April. The Keys are awesome.
Wicked Fishing - yes, for some reason the small hooks seem to do better there. I buy these packs of pre-snelled porgy hooks in size 2/4/6. Back in April I was using size 4’s and catching reds, black drum and sheepshead. When I ran out I switched to size 6’s. They seemed way too small, and I did have a few hooks break while releasing fish, but I was able to land reds in the 26-28" range. I guess if you can catch a rainbow trout on a size 22 midge, you can catch a red on a size 4.
. Yesterday my wife and my son had rods with gold #2 hooks and I had one with a silver 2/0 and they were catching a lot more. Since the bait was half a piece of frozen shrimp, the size 2 gets hidden nicely.
