Ok its all kind of talk out about using stabil.ok,well i just came from Auto Zone and a guy just introduce me to Seafoam.he said that is highly recommended from alot of people.he said it is better than Stabil.do you all think this is true.
Seafoam is an excellent product to use to clean the carbon out of your motor. As a gas additive to run all the time- I’m not sure. I have put it in my late model car as well as in a tank of boat gas every now and then. Sta-bil is more of a fuel stabilizer for when the fuel will be sitting up for a while. I’ve used it only when the boat will be sitting up for more than a month or two with a good bit of gas in it. Ideally, you would not have much gas sitting for that long because of ethanol making water in the tank. Keep the fuel in the tank low and fill up with fresh fuel before each use. With non-ethanol fuel, we were told to keep the tank full during non-use and use sta-bil to keep the gas good. Now, we’re being told to have as little fuel as possible sitting if it’s got ethanol in it.
Seafoam is good stuff, but it has been around for a very long time. Ring free is probably a better additive if you’re running the boat regularly and want to keep carbon down. Ring free is made specifically for outboards, and it was developed recently for recent technology and fuels. If following the products’ directions for normal treatment of gas for ordinary use, the ring free is also cheaper to run. 1 oz to 10 gallons of fuel. Seafoam is the better thing to use for shock treatments to de-carbon I think though. Sta-bil is for keeping gas good. I don’t think it was made to clean your fuel system or de-carbon.

Sea foam is a stabilizer also.
i believe it states that on the can.
startron is the product to use for ethanol…
Agree with everything already said. Seafoam for decarbing. I only use Startron now as it is the only fuel stabilizer that actually prevents phase separation in E-10 fuel. A friend of mine told me that Butler Marine in Beaufort now only carries Startron. No more Stabil on their shelves as Startron is the best product they have seen.
Anyone know what company makes startron?
It could be sold under a different label for much cheaper.

If I am not mistaken, Startron is made by Starbrite.
Man, this stuff just goes on, and on, and on, but it seems like most folks are catching on to the evils of E-10. If you’re going to use E-10 use Startron. Like Phin said, Seafoam for de-carbing, and Sta-Bil is only a fuel system cleaner, and rust inhibitor, with little if anything for E-10.
I’m suprised that noone has mentioned PRI-G. I’ve been using it in the boats for a couple of years now and I’m satisfied that it works as advertised. I use PRI-D in the powerstroke and see a small gain in fuel efficiency and less black smoke. Here’s the flyer for PRI-G: http://www.priproducts.com/pdfs/Flyer%20-%20PRI-G.pdf
I have seen it on the shelf at Charleston Marine and Tom Hughes in WCola stocks it.
