SEAFOAM USE

I have a 2004 Johnson 4 stroke and the RPM’s have dropped from 6000 to 5000, I changed the plugs and both fuel filters and the water separator. The problem is still there. One person said seafoam while another said no.I thought it could be the tac.but the speed is down about 10 MPH.I NEED HELP.

Most folks use Seafoam in outboards, to de-carb. two strokes. It’s a great product for this purpose! Not sure of the H.P. of the motor you’re describing. There are several Seafoam tutorials on Youtube, if you can find them. I use Seafoam, @ every other fill up. You’re problem sounds like an ignition problem (plug wire, coil pack, etc.) Also you might have trash issues in the carb. With the introduction of Ethanol, into Gasoline, it’s creating tons of problems. Some fuel lines, and pressure bulbs, will break down in Ethanol, causing carb. jets, and ports, to become clogged!! In the Greenville S.C. area, there are only a few stations selling pure Gasoline. I drive out of my way to them, for Gasoline in my boats!!! Hope this helps, Scott

Try removing the cowl, and check the throttle. Is the throttle handle, and cable allowing the throttle to open fully? Give us some more info. It’s hard to truobleshoot with such little info. and response! Did the problem occur going dowm the lake, or between trips? Still just trying to help, Scott

Scott: Thanks for all the info. The boat is in Savanna this week, but it sat in the RV lot for 2 months and started acting up when I took it out last week.I will check the throttle ASAP.

Now, there’s some useful info. The newer Ethanol blended Gasoline, has absolutely no shelf life!!! When Ethanol and Gasoline are blended, The fuel actually attracts water. My next move would be to pump as much fuel out as possible. Having sat for two months, the fuel is probably the culprit. I know some may think I’m foolish for suggesting this, but i’ve seen so many problems with the blended fuel. Ethanol, (alchahol) in itself is not causing the problems, rather the chemical introduced to make it blend with the Gasoline. I also use a product from STA-BIL, that prevents corrosion from Ethanol induced water attraction. It doesn’t remove the water, only protects from corrosion from the water. These are only suggestions, but i’ve dealt with my share of blended fuel problems. By the way, I’m no Marine Mechanic, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express, last night. Best of luck with the 140, and keep us posted. P.S. I know it’s a PITA, but using pure Gasoline really does eliminante alot of problems!! Seeya, Scott

al
that motor is a suzuki that is painted white
it is fuel injected
you probably have a partially clogged injector, or some other fuel restriction
it will not hurt to try and run some seafoam through the motor

Chris, what’s your thoughts on blended fuel??? I wonder, what might have clogged the injector??? Seeya, Scott
