Hoppy nailed it. I have been in Charleston since the 1970’s tried a lot of places. I went to Acme Grill on his advice and have been back several times. It never disappoints. Definitely not black tie, but food is local and awesome.
It’s in Summerville but Lowcountry Fish Camp is pretty solid. Little bitty hole in the wall joint but great food, insane portions and absolutely delicious desserts.
Shem Creek Bar & Grill. Open since 1984. I like the crab stuffed flounder and the shrimp and grits. The fried oyster app with the horseradish and fish roe (I don’t think I can call it caviar) and the crab wings (old bay dry style chicken wings) are good.
I will try Acme on IOP based on the good reviews here.
