Infinite wisdom? wow now you are flattering me…Thanks!1 Please do not concede anything…Your beliefs are surely based on your experience and mine on mine… Google it or go to Sportsmans warehouse. its gamakatsu 02012-25…You will find them to be the most expensive hooks but worth it…I hold my rod and feel and see a bite…My son uses the 5/0 circle and just sits and waits til the rod trys to leave the boat.I miss a lot more than him by setting the hook too soon. But he gets a lot more gut hooks than me.Most reds will give a tap tap(when fishing on the bottom) before they swallow and swim off.It amazes me sometimes how there can be so many large reds in 2-4 foot of water and never see them til you hookem.

Tell you what, Toppy. I’ll concede all of my points to your infinite wisdom if you will just post a pic of those stainless steel Gamakatsu octopus hooks. There is no wonder you are killing so many fish. The 2/0 octopus is very small and will get swallowed when the rod is in a rod holder more than half the time. Like I said, learn how to use the appropriate inline circle hook and this will not happen. I do have to correct myself from earlier. Eagle Claw and Mustad do make a Circle Octopus (not stainless), but normally any hook with the point turned in toward the shank is just considered a circle hook (offset or inline).
If I remember correctly when members ask what bait to use the responses were 1/4 or 1/2 a crab or cut mullet. They even talked about buying crab from crabbers to fish with. Which one is it? Crab, mullet, soft plastic. Or does it depend on what the discussion is about? So which one should we use (oh I’m sorry I’m not in the WE class) do I use?
BOB
I’ve always been a live bait or cut bait guy when fishing for Reds. Quartered blue crab, cut or live mullet or other baitfish are the best baits out there. Artificials might work sometimes but I’ve never tried them, cant beat the real thing.

They are actually nickel but being so shiny , one might think stainless steel
You got me, Toppy! You gotta be an alias just yanking chain. Nobody can be this stupid! Touche. Carry on.

You already got free membership!!! What you after now?
That’s not a circle hook.
BOB
I realize that. I was typing as you were posting. I already recognized that model of hook after his post. Gamakatsu does not make a stainless steel hook as you cannot chemicallly sharpen stainless. All Gami hooks are nickel plated steel, then other coatings can be applied such as black nickel. I didn’t bother posting a pic because he can’t be serious. Nobody goes on like this no-name-giver unless your just trying to get a hearty chuckle.

Reading through all his posts, I don’t get the idea that he’s not serious. I think he really believes what he says. What that makes him is subject to opinion I guess.
Stainless steel simply means it does not oxidize readily…There are many formulaes for stainless steel…Chromium is the most common additive that prevents rust…The gamakatsu site claims use of High carbon iron with few impurities…They do not specify what additives make them “stainless”. I dont know but nickel may also be a rust inhibitor.
I don’t understand why some of you folks think making someone look stupid will increase your IQ.

toppy, The nickel is a rust prohibitor, but stainless will not rust (in theory)i do not mind what hook you use, it was an honest mistake to think they were stainless, nickel are cheaper but will eventually break down and rust, Kebda, You started this mess by asking , and that is a good way to end it, lol , and one more quick note, it is hard to determine the tone someone is talking with on a keyboard, i am not mad or upset or yelling, if all letters of mine were capitalized then i would be angry, but i am not,so remember that when you read the post thanks, the cold weather is coming make sure your campers and boats have been winterized, unhook the garden hoses from your homes so they will not freeze and bust and keep a check on your outdoor pets and cover mamma’s plants and put another log on the fire

i was not implying that you were stupid i was making a reply to your comment (quote) “I don’t understand why some of you folks think making someone look stupid will increase your IQ.” i was agreeing with that comment, i apologize if that is how it was taken, it was not meant to be a personal attack, and i am more sarcastic than egotistical, I am just having some fun on a bad weather day, i do not mean to offend or upset anyone

Do you talk this much when you are fishing?
BOB
This was my original post here…As stated here about who will scream bloody murder…I was correct!!!, but never expected all the name calling… Maybe us recreational guys that live inland and spend hundreds of dollars on gas for a single trip and pay higher home insurance rates for your “right” to live in a hurricane zone should just keep supporting you and shut our mouths.Bet you would like that living your dream at our expense,Then attack us for making reasonable suggestions…President Bush saved the reds for all of us not just you guys who like to catch the fish we release.

Not to take the fellows and tramautize them for fun?You who prevent fishermen from keeping their catch are just greedy and protective of your desires and use the excuse of conservation to get your way…All the aholes that catch twenty or thirty and release actually do more harm than good…Set a reasonable limit…eat what you catch or leave them alone!
TREEMYDOG Please dont leave!! we are a minority here.stay and be respectful but call a spade a spade.
