I have been planning to redo my console (move and add gauges/switches) and finally did it this weekend(since I could not attend the Bonzo Traveling Invitational). I cut a panel out of black starboard to put my gauges on but I have a couple questions. One, when putting the gauges on the panel, should I put a small/thin bead of thin silicone on the face of the starboard before installing the gauges, and should I put a small bead of silicone on the starboard before installing it on the console so water can’t get behind the panel?
I will include some pictures of my project later this week.
I have read that starboard and 5200 dont make a good bond so the gauge panel should seperate from the console. You will play h$ll getting the 5200 off of the console if it was prepared with a light sanding and acetone. I had to borrow a zip saw to seperate a cooler box from the deck that I 5200d last year…Dont ask.
