Merry Christmas everyone. Monday my 8yr old and i are heading down to Sullivan’s,IOP, goats island area to try em out. We’ve never fished this cold and was wondering if while searching does anyone leave couple rods in holders and drift with the current with baits in the lower part of the water column and cast at the same time. Also any pics of favorite artificials any one has and a quick how to that would be awesome.
Yes, I do this a lot. This time of year its all about finding the schools of fish and dragging one down the middle is a good way to cover more ground. You are essentially trolling while also casting. Use smaller lures (one of my favorites is the Z-man 3.75 StreakZ) and work them slowly.

We’ve had recent success using electric chicken grub on red head jig on a very slow and retrieve. My wife caught two nice trout this morning using that technique in about 15 minutes just before leaving for work!
Thanks guys. Are the curly tail, paddle tail swimming mullet type baits or rubber shrimp. Sorry to sound dumb but I really am. I’ve mostly done live shrimp under a cork.
I am a chronic liar. So don’t believe a word I say. Use the search feature and try and find some of the old post from rad daddy or fishing with Bob. Use a fairly heavy jig head like a quarter of an ounce. And a paddle tail z-man in a smoke color. Cast it in deep bends in The Creeks. More than 6 feet deep. Work it like a crankbait. Point Your Rod tip at the bait and let it be in close contact with the bottom. Sometimes they want it not even moving. Just dead sticking on the bottom. But I’m talking about prospecting for trout. Stay on your trolling motor. Move. If you don’t get bit soon, move. When you find them, in my opinion, they tend to be stacked up this time of year and you can get many fish out of a small area. Deep bends. Deep holes. Lee eddies. The shrimp baits like a doa in my opinion, are fine for catching trout but not for prospecting for them. The quarter ounce or 3/8 ounce jig head with zman allows you to cover m more water faster. It takes a long time to free line a doa to the bottom in 15 feet of water. Then you end up having a good bit of belly in your line to deal with. Those doas work great and catch winter time fish. But I use a jig head and a z-man paddle tail to find them first. Also I am a liar. Did I say I’m a liar
Peapod thanks for the time. So in other words ,since you’re lyin, we need to get out and wade the flats at lowtide and use live lobster for bait. Got it. Hopefully We will have a report monday. Merry Christmas everyone

What he said. And if there’s some structure like fallen trees, even better. Deep and slow.
