I heard today from a landower that south carolina has extended its deer season 3 extra days, has anyone else heard anything about this?
well i see on dnr.sc.gov that jan. 4+5 are free hunting days for any SC resident. the 5th is a youth day. http://www.dnr.sc.gov/news/yr2012/dec27/dec27_free.html doesn’t state whether or not these days are either sex.
The deer season has not been extended. Youth day is on the 5th(as it usually is the first Saturday in January) and it is either sex. The 4th and 5th are days that people can hunt without having purchased a hunting license. It basically applies to small game. It is similar to the free fishing license days in June.
it would be good in my opinion if they started the season on sept 1, instead of aug. 15. and then extended it to jan 15. seems there are a lot of deer running together after the first of jan.

They run together because they know the season is over, change it to Jan 15 and they won’t herd up until Feb.

fred is right! back home bow season is open through the 1st weekend of feb…only to see em herd up back together for valentines.

Your right. Daughter was horseback riding and showed me some pictures of 6 does walking together Monday @ 11:30 and I’ve got some night pictures of a bunch together on a couple of corn piles. but… given another few weeks and we’ll probably see more huddled together.
edit: It’s amazing how close you can get to deer on horseback.
you are correct fred. i was on my stand the other day and a ■■■■■ of turkeys came strutting by holding up a calendar and laughing. they know!

I read that link. But I’m still a little confused. For me(15) to hunt with my dad the 4 or 5th. What does he need? We’d either wanna shoot ducks, or a hog in the FMNF. I know I don’t need anything, per DNR JI, but ns that article leads me to believe he doesnt need anything for hunting those 2 days? Thanks
