Seat mods ?

Hey guys,
I posted the other day about picking up a little Eagle Talon to use as a budget fishing kayak for now. My only real complaint is the seat is not very good at all! I have read a lot of simple reviews about this rig and that seems to be just about the only complaint about the boat. So since I got it for the price that I did, I figure it is worth putting some effort into modifying the stock seat or just getting a replacement.

Its not real good on the ass and not much better on my bad back either. I was thinking of just stacking some foam under and maybe behind it for more padding and better support. (Plus I would not mind being up a little higher too.) And once I get that shaped and sitting how I want it, then stick it all together somehow.

Or just getting a different seat all together. I saw on YouTube where a guy used a canoe seat but it didn’t really look like it worked out too good. And there are lots of seats on ebay too.

Looking for suggestions. I can make just about anything so fabrication is not a problem.

Thanks guys.

Rigger,

Here is the seat I upgraded to a few months back. Not a single complaint.

How about one of those square flotation cushions? When I had my old Ride 135, with the molded-in seat, I used one to make the seat more comfy…

That is a pretty nice looking seat. Something like that would probably be good replacement seat.

I was thinking of taking the foam out of a throwable square boat cushion and cutting it to fit under and behind the seat that is in the boat now. Then if that didn’t work out, order a better seat. Maybe one like above.

The Eagle Talon actually seems to be a decent boat and for what I paid for it, I think its worth spending some time on the seat.

Keep the ideas coming guys. Thanks for the input.

If you are looking to just improve the seat you have. A stadium cushion or a boat seat would help the bottom. For back support, you can cut a piece of pool noodle and slide it in behind you.

Stop by Time Out Sport And Ski and see Dave about some of their seat options. The have some nice seats with a higher back and better lumbar support.

Hey FishSlayer, any chance you could post a picture or two of that seat in your boat? Does the back of the seat give you good support? Looks like that seat has some good storage on the back of it too. Its hard to see in the picture on the website but does it have good snaps and straps on it?

I was also looking at this one on EBay too…

It looks just like one I saw in Time Out but a little less money.

I have some back issues to deal with so getting decent seat is kind of important to me. Along with the fact that I would just like to be comfortable.

I also saw this one on EBay too.

Thanks a lot for the pictures. Your pictures are a lot better than the ones on the web site. I am watching a couple on EBay right this minute and if they go up to high, then I may just order than one. Its nice to hear from someone that actually has one.

I have the spider angler seat as well and its awesome. I spend up to 8 hours in it with no problem.

I went out yesterday for a couple of hours and just putting a boat cushion under the seat made things a lot better. I actually really liked being a few inches higher.

The seats on eaby that I was watching all went up too high on the bid so I may just go ahead and order that seat. Its nice to hear from people that have actually used that seat. I am not normally out there for more than just a few hours at a time but it is still nice to be comfortable.

Now, I wonder if a new fishing seat will help me catch fish !!

Just ordered that seat. Cant wait to try it out!

I think you will be very happy. If you bought it from the rakuten site you are getting a great deal. Original MSRP was 199.99 KFS has it on sale now for about 129. Enjoy. Now, if they only came with fish attractors…

I got it for $77 from the link that you posted above. I am sure it will be tons better than what I have now.
