Seatow VS. Boat US

Getting ready to put my boat in drystack for 2016 season…I want to renew a membership with 1 of these 2 services, SO, the question: Which 1 will go out farther from Charleston Harbor god forbid I need services offshore? I know basically, they both cover a lot inshore…any ideas?
Thanks, Jim.

I was told by West Marine that Tow Boat US will go out to 100 miles with the premium package. And it also gets you savings at West Marine. Includes highway towing as well.

Thanks for info Sulcataman…100 miles? That is more than I need. I had Boat US with a bad experience…so, really trying hard not to renew with them…But, looking into both.

Either will go as far as a smaller boat is likely to go. Both are reputable companies who do what they say. They both have telephones, call them up and ask  No need to speculate. I have Sea Tow, with a roadside trailer package, had them for a long time. Never needed them, but I feel sure they will come anywhere I’m going to go.

Can’t attest for sure how far they come out on water , but I think about 100 miles depending on plan you purchase. BUT
This actually happened to me this past Nov . Best I can tell it.
Returning from Charleston to up-state , fuel pump on tow vehicle
stranded me on I-26 north of I-95 , H-way patrol assisted as wife talked to tow boat. As traffic was terrible and t-boat was having to dispatch from where ever , H-patrol had a tow truck dispatched from a quicker/closer location… Long story short , Tahoe and 18 cc towed to shop by private tow approx. 25 miles cost $385.00 best I remember. Tow boat reimbursement tow bill the following week as they couldn’t get there first!
I’ve got the Gold unlimited plan that covers tow vehicle assist, I’m happy and will renew again !!!:smiley:

That doesn’t sound like them. Contact the owner and explain what happened. He’ll treat you right.

Due to recent experiences I will be buying a Sea Tow membership. I can’t imagine a situation that would make me go back.

Sea Tow came out to get me 70 miles offshore 3yrs ago. Had no complaint with the service.

Just remember 100 miles is really 83 nautical miles… 70 miles is only 58 nautical miles…

I’ve had Boat US for going on 3 years now I believe. Only had to use them once when I goofed up and misread how much the tide had gone out coming around Ft Sumter one day. Boat US was there within 45 minutes and turned what would have been a long wait for the tide to come back into a brief delay and a funny story. The Captain was very nice and I had no complaints. I’m interested to hear what the bad experiences are. Also I did look it up before I started doing offshore and saw that 100 miles is how far they go which works for me!

I appreciate everyones ■■■■■■■■…I don’t see me and my wife going out more than 50 - 60 miles, so far we logged 30 miles out and came in on one engine…I never heard the end of it. That’s when she made me get the 2 new power plants…poor me :)…Boat US left us stranded for 3 hours at HH Island when I had an unusual incident happen…it was terrible, I gave the guy my coordinates and they still couldn’t find me, the guy was 100 yrs. old and I decided when my membership expired, I would revisit options.
Again…thanks for all the input.

I had a phone coversation with the owner less than a week ago with less than pleasing results about my experience. Also there was no response to the three letters that I wrote.
