Secret spot and stono 19th ad 20th

Through these hollows is the most secretive flat in charleston so secretive the fish didn’t know about it. Very cool spot with under water trees and a small window to get in and out.

Fished some backwater brackish run off that was so hot when I released the trout I had to revive it from the heat. It felt warm in my hand. The water was in the 90s there some how. Left after one the one fish.
The next day fished the stono and searched a couple flats and few miles of shore line for reds or bonnets to sight cast. After several hours I found big fish feeding but they turned out to be far. High tide falling had good action on the grass lines and oyster points on the main river. My highlight was a 31 inch red on a 5’6ultralight with a 500 series reel and 6lb line. It took me to the knot once and almost to it a second time and had 2 more good short runs. It ran toward the surface and I saw its fin when it turned at the knot and thought it was a shark because it didn’t fight like reds usually do. I saw 3 people taking pictures with reds on the way in so the action is there. I could see fish busting shrimp every where. Saw some lady fish airing it out in the channel on mullet and a few big sharks feeding on the surface too. I couldn’t catch either. No signs of tarpon but there were some things gulping and busting on little red worms of the top of the water but I never saw the fish.

I know that spot!

tight window indeed. Ought to see you there in october or may?

Those things gulping were gar. I’ve seen a bunch in the last few weeks in the stono.

The red worms were in stono inlet near kiawah and it was not far eating them. Gars have a few tells like the way their nose breaks the water and they roll. This was similar to a blue gill or bass feeding on the surface. Like they were sucking them down from straight under not slashing like gars feed. I will agree I’ve seen a lot of gar in the stono this year. Night time dock light fishing for far has took over my trout spots.
