Hi guys,
I’ve been using Shimano reels (Stradic & Sustain) exclusively for ~30 years. I want to pick up a couple of lesser expensive Shimanos for my grandkids.
I’ve been looking at the Sedona & Sahara models(4000 class).
Any suggestions as to which one is a better reel?
Thanks,
Lee Mac
Just picked up a Sedona… I also fish stradic. No complaints on the Sedona yet time will tell.

I’ve never used the Sahara but, I have a Sedona that is going on 6 years. It has performed very well and still looks great. It is a really good reel for the $. I am also a fan of the mid-priced Okuma reels.

I use both Stradic and Sahara reels. I honestly cannot tell a huge difference. The Saharas have held up well and have been fished hard. I mainly fish artificial 99% of the time so that get a pretty good work out. I have had my Saharas for 7 years and they still look great for what I have put them through.

I’m finished buying expensive reels, I find they don’t justify the cost. I have used both Sahara’s and Sedona’s, they are good value but now I stick with Pflueger Presidents mostly. They are inexpensive workhorses. I have one I just can’t throw away because it just keeps on working, probably close to 10 years now. Only issue is the finish can come off the reel handle but it is strictly cosmetic. You can buy a whole President rod/reel combo for $70.
I would look into a kast king sharky II, they are supposedly made at night in the same factory as shimano reels… I ordered one for $38 on amazon and got it last Thursday. I’ve only used it once but it really feels nice.

Check out the Okuma Trio. A great reel at a reasonable price.

I also have a Kast King Sharky II. I’ve used it a year and really like it. Time will tell how it holds up, but I’ve actually found myself grabbing it before my Penn Battle II.
got my wife a Sedona for our annniversary about 6 years ago (and yes, that went over like a fart in a diving bell, but hey). It held up really well and been fished hard. Just now getting a little funky, and I have traded it out of the rotation but reserved for my youngest son’s friends as a buddy rod.
