sending unit replaced.... ???

Gauge still reading full… granted it’s close to full, but I ran it for several hours after installing the new sending unit and it never budged. Gauge? Explain to me like a five year old, how I can check this out.

remove sending unit from tank
leave wires connected
turn key on
move float up and down
gauge should move
if not, remove pink wire
gauge should drop to empty
if not, bad gauge

Go pee, remove sending unit from tank, go pee, leave wires connected, go pee, turn key on, go pee again, move float up and down, go pee one more time, gauge should move if not, remove pink wire, go pee again, gauge should drop to empty if not, bad gauge, run to go pee,
