First report on here…

Been fishing behind Folly for the summer months with little luck. New to the area. Life’s been busy and got out for the first time in about a month last weekend. Went out Friday right before the rain shower. Talked to a guy at the boat ramp for a while and he put me on a good spot where the drum were feeding. Went and threw the cast net on a school of mullet and headed straight to the spot. First cast hooked up with a 12 in spottail. A few casts later caught my second at about 13.5in. Then, the rain came in heavy and I tried to wait it out but it just downpoured. Took off a few minutes later.

Saturday morning got out there around 8am. Fished the same spot as the night before with no luck. Moved around a few other little creeks with no luck at all. Drifted cut mullet along the banks but couldn’t get a hit. Finally got way back into a creek as the tide was coming in a little stronger. Saw a promising dock all by itself. Took about 20 min to navigate through the super shallow water to get back there but anchored up and threw some mullet under the dock. Nothing. Then threw right up against the grassline near a creek mouth WAM! Nice 21 incher. It was about 12:30 and HOT at that point. Called it a day.

Went back out later and got another short spottail. Thanks to the guy at the boat ramp for the info! Gave me some much needed success to get back out there and stay on em. Thanks, man!

Hoping to keep having a little more success as the weather cools down. I’ve been trying to cover a lot more ground and switch up tactics until I’ve found something that’s been working for me. Ready to get back out there…

Sounds fun! Congrats.
What rigs were you using for all that?

Caught them all on a popping cork with cut mullet. I really didn’t do too much “popping” as I felt that was less realistic with cut mullet rather than shrimp (what do people on here think about that?). Mostly worked the current and let the cork float down the line where I thought fish would be. Also, definitely seemed to make a difference using fresh cut mullet vs. 1 day frozen

I’ve learned a ton from reading posts on here, so thanks everyone for sharing your knowledge. Still gotta put more time in and keep learning…
