Shad Roe

Hey, y’all,

I have an elderly neighbor with whom I’ve become good buddies. He recently had a couple of falls which has resulted in him having to do five weeks of rehab at an in-patient facility. He has about a month left 'til he comes home, and we’re planning to have a party for him.

Several times in the past, he’s asked if I could find him some shad roe like he used to eat when he lived in Columbia. I’m from the Lowcountry but have never eaten it nor know anything about it, so I’m asking for y’all’s help. I would imagine it’s just a seasonal “delicacy”, but if there’s any way I can acquire some for him, please let me know. I’m willing to pay whatever it’s worth to whomever to make this happen for him.

Please get back to me with any ■■■■■■■■. Thanks in advance.

“I’m not a hundred percent in love with your tone right now…”

Yes its a seasonal thing, usually late winter/early spring depending on how you classify the seasons around here ha-ha! There are a few places that I’ve seen it at. I saw that Sellsfish (a fish market in Summerville) carries it. I know that Fishnet seafood on HWY 17 South sells de-boned shad so I would think they would carry Roe. I would call Marvin’s on Dorchester Rd and any of the Crosby’s …If they don’t carry it they would definitely order it…just don’t think any fresh Roe would be in until 2014 ,but I don’t know what the commercial availability is.
