Landed my first 4 shad on the fly yesterday. I’ll post pics in a couple weeks.
ive been tying up a bunch of shad type flies. i thot i would try the bead forward or whatever its called to approximate a dart. it is tied with a nail or pin with beads or weights tied to the shank on a down eye or jig hook so that the weight of the hook is offset and the fly fishes horizontal when down. has anybody used these for shad?
this is a good way to use up some odd materials that i got in some ebay lots.

How long will the shad be around?

Until April give or take a couple weeks.
This is me and my boy Got2Go Tearin em up!
i guess you can get to them without a boat? any suggestions on how to get there? thanks
rookie,
took my fly rod down yesterday,
right before sunset the shad took off,
hooked 3 on the fly, one took it all the way to the backing, but couldnt land any, i was using my 6wt and the only one i landed ended up being a herring
but it was fast and furious

Nice LTC. You’ll have to let me know next time you are coming down. How far out were the ones you hooked OTF? By the way, I think I saw Wyatt on You Tube. Later
they were pretty close in, i caught them all the way up near buoy line, hopefully be back in a few weeks, i want to land one on the fly not just hook one, only landed the herring

saw a guy catch a few at a dam at a popular lake on the fly. i described what i saw him doing to a guy at the winyah lyin tournament last night and he said it was likely “chuck and duck” which he uses for salmon. not sure it counts as fly fishing but it looked like fun.

I’ve been fishing traditional style flies along the lines of a trout fly or bonefish style on a sinking tippet. Not exactly a chuck and duck. Sounds dangerous. Caught a few more this week. There most have been another strong run. Definitely a blast.
