is the shad run still hot at monks corner?
Great report!!
Went yesterday with my daughter and her husband No Shad but tore the herring up Herring are still here.
Went last Tuesday and the shad where running strong on the right side of the dam when facing the dam. It is where the water out flow from the lake/dam is and fishing from the edge outside of the current down to where it shifts toward the middle every body was catching shad one guy caught a six pounder. Shad mostly swim with the current in a line so if you don’t catch them in 20 or so minutes move spots. On the right side closer up to the dam down to where the metal wall is on the plant side was the hot spots. The boat a cast a way from me was dead on the line because all I could here was drags going off and fish hitting the deck they caught probably 30 in an hour or so and couldn’t keep a line in the water with 4 guys and 6 rods they had me envious, we caught ten (14-19in) with 4 roe shad and a bucket full of hearing. I might go tomorrow but weather may be a factor.
17ft Key west
We went Friday and killed them. Huge ones and medium ones one after another. On the right in the mediumish current.
I have never gone up finishing for shad. I fished for crappie and large-mouth a lot when I was in Alabama and still have a lot of that tackle sitting around.
Where would you guys put in and general areas to fish? I not seeking honey holes just better understanding of where to go. Also what would be the best bait to use?
I talked to a neighbor yesterday who went up there this past weekend. Said fishing was fantastic and they limited out 3 days in a row. He said they were using herring for bait, caught on a sabiki rig. Also said a lot of people there were fishing just for the herring.

Do you fish, or do you just look for opportunities to say “great report!” and be a jack-ace when someone asks a question? What do you contribute to the site? Think about it…

Bart: You’re right…it is a little juvenile I admit
smabell - Here’s report 40+ shad today for my partner & I. Interesting that I don’t recall any reports from you. Oh by the the way, we used heavier jig heads,1/4 OZ. with a chartreuse glitter grub.
Now THAT’S a great report!! You haven’t seen any reports from me yet because the dorado aren’t in yet…and the water is too cold for me to go spearfishing/lobstering.
