We are planning to pull the boat down to ocean isle in two weeks for a work trip. We will have a couple of days to get away and fish. I’m unfamiliar with the area and looking for advice on what to target. If we are lucky enough to catch a weather window we are planning to try a few of the nearshore reefs. I prefer to stay within 10-15 miles of shore.
Is the Shallotte inlet marked and how difficult is it to get out? Anything to look out for? Any guidance is much appreciated.
Would we be wasting our time trolling around the reefs this time of the year or is bottom fishing our best bet?
If weather falls apart, the plan is to drop anchor and fish the inlet or drift down the river and fish the banks. Any tips, advice or local knowledge would be greatly appreciated.
Shallotte inlet is marked but shifts a lot. Haven’t been by there since Nov. but Ocean Ilse fishing center can answer questions.Wouldn’t waste time trolling nearshore but seabass and other assorted bottom fish are all over the reefs from 3 miles out.To get better size your best bet is to go as deep as youre comfortable with. Good luck,we run out of little river jetties and killed the seabass 2 weeks ago at the little river offshore.

Thanks billymac,
My next questions was going to be who should I talk with locally. I’ll be sure to stop buy the Ocean Ilse Fishing center for bait and local info. Thanks!!
