looks perfect! don’t forget to keep the ‘bitter end’ tied off when you use it…I’ve lost two of them when I threw it into deeper water and watched the anchor and the line disappear into the deep!
I had a pole anchor like that get stuck at deavoux bank and jumped in about 4ft of water that was clear to the bottom that day and watched a 6ft shark swim right up to me and turn around and swim off. It was either a bull or sandbar shark.
Hey! Where do you purchase stainless rods like that? I looked online and was looking at getting a 5 foot one. It’s about 60 bucks and the shipping is going to be expensive because it weighs 11 pounds. Is there a place locally in Charleston?

Check out a past post from 2013 titled shallow water anchor DIY. A galvanisized grounding rod from either of the big box stores works great, and cost @ $10.00 ea. Attach a D ring, line, and your all in for @ $20.00 bucks each.
I have buddies with machine shops. The rounded end could have been done with a grinder. You only need to break the edges some so that it is not just a blunt end. I machined the other end down because the shackles that I had were too small to go over the OD. You should be able to get a shackle to fit over the OD and not have to machine that end. As for the hole you should be able to drill the hole on a drill press with a good sharp metal bit. Just go slow and lots of lubrication.
I will be down this weekend and will get lots of use out of mine.

I have a 7’ long, 1" diameter 316 stainless rod on order. If you can do the taper and the drill, as well as a cut, you’re welcome to keep 3.5’ for yourself. It’s the least I could do.
I think this is just what the forum is all about. Guys who don’t even know each other getting together to help each other out. Thanks for being good guys.
I will be around the jetties Friday and Saturday, if you see “The Convict Hunter” a 1910 BB Polar stop by and say hey.

BadBob – It’s all good until I spear that darned thing through my foot like some sort of wanna-be Angler Jesus.
I’m hoping to get a case settled so I can get out tomorrow. Think we’ll hit up some creeks around Kiawah and Folly. I don’t know exactly where to go, but I’ll let my keen fish-finding sense lead me to a spot … and then do the exact opposite.
2- 3’-6" Cajun Anchors made from 316 Stainless Steel 1" rod complete with stainless shackles.
Can’t wait to throw one into the mud in.
AUAlum2000 provided the rod and I did the work and provided the shackles. All in for both I think about $55, they sell for $70 each and that’s using 3/4" rod
Sweet. The ends on those are more pointed than mine but will work great. Just be careful and don’t drop one on your foot. LOL
Just a heads up, you might want to get a brush (tire brush works great) to keep in your boat. When you pull the anchor out of the water you can brush the mud off of it before laying in your boat. You know how sticky that mud is down there.

I use a 10 ft Stick It, store it in the gunnel while underway… put in into the rear side gunnel rod holder hole and leave the T handle side out towards the front, it hugs the gunnel tight enough to not be in the way even when fishing without it…
