I need to pick up a couple shallow water anchor poles for my boat and was going to see what brands everyone recommended. I’ve seen the stick it’s and a couple others but wasn’t sure if one was better than the other or not. It’s for a 21ft bay boat and I’ll probably get some 8ft long. Thanks in advance for any help!
8 foot galvanized grounding rod, drill a whole in the end of it, attach a d-ring, tie 10 ft of dock line to it and for $12 you have a shallow water anchor. Forget about the $$$$$$ fiberglass fancy smancy ones. !!
I use a “Cajun anchor” in water up to 15 feet deep. They cost about $50 but I made two of them out of a 6 ft piece of stainless 1" rod. I have about $30 in both of mine including the rod, stainless shackles, and 30 ft of rope on each of them.
To use them you just throw them straight down in the water and the weight & momentum will send it about 2 feet into the mud. Just tie off straight above where you threw it and the boat won’t move. If it is windy I just throw one form the bow and one from the stern.
Works really well on my 19 footer

The answer is yes to both of your questions. The anchor is a stainless steel rod that is 1" diameter and 3’ long. I ground one end to be rounded and I attached a stainless steel shackle to the other end. Attach the rope to the shackle and throw straight down into the mud. If it his oysters it just goes through them.
You can google them to see pictures and I think there was a video on you tube that shows you how to make them.
Check your local scrap yard for stainless steel rod. I paid more for the stainless steel shackles than I did for 6’ of the rod.

If you think of it at some point, I’d love to see a photo of your handiwork [so that I may shamelessly copy it].
I like my 12’ stick-it pole, but it frustrates me that I don’t have a spot to store it while under way, as the gunnel rod-holders are too short, and it’s too tall and unwieldy to have while motoring around.
Eventually, the answer will be a PowerPole on one end and GPS-enabled Motorguide or Minn-Kota on the other, but there’s only so much marital capital to go around.
