I order a Shallow Water Anchoring Spike about 7 months ago and never used it until last weekend. Learned 2 things:
-
If you stick it in mud 4’ you will have a heart attack trying to pull the (**() thing up. I thought that I would have to get out of
the boat and start rocking the boat back and forth to break the suction. But the boat did not move.
-
It does not hold very well when you are using it at the beach and the boat wakes, current and waves are rolling in.
Ricky,
Welcome to the SC side of the river
Ha! 4’ into the mud is def a no-no.
Mine is bent slightly because of that.
Love the Cajun anchor though - can’t be beat in the creeks with a skiff. I troll 5 lines by myself a lot in the fall in the shallow creeks for Trout. It can be a rodeo at times, so now I toss the cajun anchor when I catch a fish (front or rear) to hold the boat while I make my catch(s) (sometimes 2 or 3 at a time if you hit a school).
We also use it on the beach along with a regular anchor to keep the boat just off the beach (bow out to fight the waves). Drop the regular anchor out a ways (let others nearby know its out there) and use the cajun anchor on the beach to to hold the rear in close (18" of water or so) and you can use your swim ladder for the ladies to get in (not out - keep em all - like a crab trap
)
Thanks, Captain Ross

the best way to get a stick it or push pole or anything out of the mud is to spin it first and then pull. it works like a charm.
The right prop makes all the difference. A four blade prop will slow down your troll. I use mytrolling motor up front when I want to go even slower.
