Shallow well pond help

We have a place on Edisto with a shallow pond a foot or so but could hold as high as three or 4 feet with help. It’s one about an acre in size want to install a well to help with the level of the pond but I am thinking running a well pump 2 or three days straight several times a month during summer months would be pricey. I am thinking maybe a solar powered well pump could possibly work. Anybody have any experience in something like this or have an idea of what could work

Just a thought. since this is apparently a water table pond the water will constantly seek that level. 3 acre feet of water is 1.0 million gallons. At 10 gallons a minute the pump would need to run for 69 days not counting for evaporation and seepage.

Nope not a water table pond more of a drainage pond that has been manicured. mostly rain water pond. holds a constant level at about a foot and a quarter and in the summer it pretty much dries up for the month of August due to evaporaation, the pond in winter will hold about a foot and a half or more through the winter and as much as 2 feet if we have a good amount of rain. So the consensus is that if we get a level of three feet or more we can at least maintain a average depth of 2 plus feet when considering evaporation. Does this make since to have a pump to maintain it cost wise?

Rent a Backhoe and dig it out in Aug.! Think it would be cheaper and more long lasting in the long run.

Get a mining permit and get a contractor to dig out the pond and pay you money. That’s only if the soil is any good!

See Hungry necks post… not only will you need about a 100gpm pump, you will also need a well that can support 100gpm. The pump would be 1.5HP +/-, 20amp constant draw - you are not getting 20amp @ 120vac from solar.

Pump + 20amp service = 2k+
Well =??

100gpm would add 1.5ft in about 3 days.

You are looking at 2.4 kilowatt hours x 24hours x 3 days = 170KWH for a 3 day run. 170KWH x $.1153717(cost per KWH) =
$20-25 per run +/-.

If you can get a well to support 100gpm constant run.

Depending on your location on Edisto island to get that kind of volume of freshwater you are going to need a deep well (>450 ft) with a 220v submersible pump. Very expensive. Most shallow wells (20-60 ft) won’t deliver much more that 10 gpm. Whether any of this is worth it is totally a matter of personal choice. If it make you happy who cares what it cost, sort of like the a boat.

Thanks Hungary appreciate all the info.
