i recieved my insurance policy notification on Saturday. I opened my policy and thought that it looked to be sort of high. Turns out it was $45.00 less this year at $939.00. I contacted Lee at Strickland Marine this morning and he did some checking himself. Lee called me back with a new policy with increased coverage and a savings, a huge savings. The new policy was $524.00, for you accounting types, that’s a $415.00 savings. If you’re coming up on a renewal or just want to shop your coverage, give him a shout.
Thanks for your help Lee.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

what happened to my post? I just asked if the insurance co was travelers
I can’t tell you any further specifics than this about my customer(s), but no, the insurance co used was not Travelers in this case; although, we do represent them along with dozens of other companies, and they are one of the A-rated players (A++ rated, actually). They were not the best deal in this case, though, so I placed him with another A-rated carrier. As an independent agency representing and selling insurance for about 3 dozen companies, we shop for the best deal for each customer’s specific boat and needs.

I have my insurance with your co and Im very happy with your service. When travelers sent me my new policy the raised my rates saying the report they got from a credit co wasnt good. I had a report done from a friend. Came back with not one late payment since 1982.I called and Nancy got it straightened out Im just woundering if they are doing that hoping people will overlook it and pay

Thank you. Roger that. That can happen with the companies that use credit score as part of the rating criteria. Some do, and some don’t. Travelers does. What can happen is if they don’t have all of your info inputted properly, or don’t have enough info to check your credit or insurance score, then they can get what’s called a “no hit” when they check your score upon rating, and if that happends, you don’t get credit for having the good credit you have. You get some default rate. From checking your record in my system, I see a note that says that’s what happened with you (a “no-hit” credit report), and it does appear that it was an error on the part of Travelers, as you say. Nancy did a good job detailing the notes.
I’ve seen things like this happen a couple of times. Something similar happened to me once (me as the customer) with State Farm with my auto insurance. I was placed in the pool for bad drivers and charged basically double when I had a perfect driving record. They didn’t do it on purpose. It was a mistake. I left them for that, not because of the mistake, but because they handled it terribly when I showed them their error. All insurance companies are subject to making mistakes. How they handle it when it happens, though, is everything. That’s also one reason why it’s always good to have a local, independent agent to help when the big company makes a mistake.
I don’t think the Travelers is doing anything like that on purpose because if they were, I think I would have seen it a lot more than I have, and also, if they were, they would not back off of the premium increase and accept responsibility for the error when it occurs, as it appears they did. If they wanted to up-rate you on purpose, they would just up-rate you. No excuse necessary. Stuff like that just happens sometimes, unfortunately, and what matters most to me is how a company deals with the mistakes when they happen. So, that’s why I believe in giving my customers direct access to me and Dad–the President and VP o
