i am heading up to little river for a week this sat. i am wantingto catch some sharks as our house is on the main deep channel. i have not done much inshore fishing. wondering what kinda rigs and bait to use and how to catch them. any tips?
I would suggest calling Captain Shane at Crazy Sister Marina in Murrells Inlet. He is the best anywhere and knows his stuff. He has very reasonable prices as well can catch the fish. My dad and I go with him every year and we always leave worn out from catching sharks non-stop. He has already caught a 7 foot and 10 foot Hammerhead this year and is saying that the bite is getting better now. Hope this helps

thanks for the name. might call him up. i was just wanting to know the basic rigs and bait and know how to catch them myself.
Sounds like you’ll be river fishing. First, catch bait with some small rigs on the bottom with cut shrimp. Whiting, rays, whatever.
Use that live or fresh bait on your shark rigs which should be at least 20 lb. class outfits. An 8/0 circle hook on at least a 6 foot leader with a weight taped a foot or so above the bait is good. Slack tide is helpful but every area is different. Good luck.
thanks squalus. that helps. any other tips anyone?
It depends on what size fish you’re after. For small stuff 5 ft or less, I use 2 ft 80 lb wire bite leader with a 7/0 J hook. I’ll then use 4 ft of 80 lb mono leader and use no less than 30 lb main line. For bigger stuff, I use a 3 ft 175lb 49 strand cable bite leader, 9/0 J hook with 10 ft of 200 lb mono on no less than 40 lb on a big 6/0 Senator. I use a large egg sinker on a dropper rig (snap swivel on a ft of 80lb with a bead at the end to keep the weight from sliding off) snapped to the swivel between my mono leader and main line. I have 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, & 16 oz dropper rigs to match the depths and currents. I’ve caught 250 lb Goliath Grouper, 10 ft Bull Sharks and much more on the big rig. It may be overkill but I like knowing that my terminal tackle can handle whatever bites my bait…
As for bait, I’d use whole horse mullet, monster croaker, fatdaddy whiting, ray wings, and bonita and cuda filets. If you wanna catch big sharks, use big baits. For smaller sharks on lighter tackle, use medium baits.
