Shark ID?

Maybe not the best pic, but anybody have any ideas on what kind this is?

To my knowledge…that is a Sandbar Shark. It is protected from harvest and it is one of the more common sharks you will encounter that size off our coast

Same kind I caught on a buck tail jigging for cobes friday. Thought I hooked the mother of all brownies. Nope

Cool. Thanks guys

That is a great picture. The only ridgeback sharks that can be retained are oceanic white tip, smoothhound sharks and tigers whichare easy to identify because of their coloration . All the others are prohibited including Sand bar, Dusky, Silky, Bignose, Caribbean reef and night sharks.

are tiger sharks good to eat.
thought they were off the list also.

All legal Sharks including Tiger, I’ve eaten have been good… if gutted, insides washed down, and promptly put on ice. Tiger not as good as Mako. Wahoo not as good as a Mako. imo.

Mako is incredibly good. Caught one and can’t wait to do it again.

Dangerous buggers though. Had a friend in the 90’s almost bleed out from a bite to his leg. Got it In the boat and it went fool chopping everything it could. Never brought another one in the boat without it being fully subdued. (Only 4 in my life). Helicopter met us half way in and got him to hospital. 80 + stitches and his calf muscle still looks goofy today.
