Over the last year or two I’ve caught a number of 3-4ft sharpnose. Decent size for that species, and they’re feisty critters, but I’d love to hook into something a little bigger. One of the species that may be in the 5-7ft range and in the 50-100lb weight class. Seems almost impossible to keep the sharpnose from being first to my baits though. Any shark fishermen out there to offer advice? I do most of my shark fishing around the jetties/harbor/grillage etc., with cut bait on the bottom.
From experience a small live stingray or cut stingray wings will get you a bigger bite. You wont get as many bites as with the cut bait but when you do get bit hold on.
fish sleep repeat
Step 1) Catch a sharpnose
Step 2) Use sharpnose as bait
Step 3) Reel in big shark
Sounds funny but skinnee has a point.
