Shark teeth

The other day fishing wasnt happening because the kids were out of control. My wife suggested we go find some shark teeth. My wife and son had a blast finding small teeth on cat island at low tide. I know there are some bigger teeth out there, and would love to take them somewhere to find them. Can anyone help me out with a good spot, or is that sacred like fishing honey holes? Thanks as always.

Anywhere they dump dredge material. I went to a spot on the stono back in the day. Some people go to Drum island. Legality of drum, I dunno.

Thanks!

Cat island is picked over pretty well. You can find smalls a lot. Yes, good spots aren’t generally shared, but with a little research yourself you can conclude where to start looking for the big ones. Gotchacovered is a pro and would likely share some this with you. Drum island has signs on it, but I see people out there all summer long looking for teeth. I don’t know what the fine would be if someone from DNR saw you out there.

Edisto Beach used to be my favorite place, but since all the Beach re-nourishmenst it’s hard to find much. On 61 across from the Plantations are some dredge pits and ditches that I’ve found a good few, but I don’t have access anymore? Pretty much anywhere in the lowcountry that has deep ditching or pits that you can gain access to has them. The biggest teeth I’ve found came out of the salkehatchie swamp from digging fill for logging roads. Usually right were the sand quits and the greenish hard stuff starts. 18’-30’ down.

If you go up behind the Ladson Fire Department there is a small creek bed that usually holds some. Might want to wait until the water goes down though.

Thanks as always for the replies. Is there anywhere in the wando, harbor, etc. area where we can search for teeth while out on a boat ride? It would be one of those things we could do if the family fishing trip heads downhill! Thanks again for helping out!

@seawest At low tide right of off the Pitt Street Bridge is a small island that was made using dredge material. All you have to do is jump down the seawall and you will be on the teeth in an instance. Beware there is alot of pluff and oysters. Don’t say i didn’t warn ya.

Find a new housing development where they have started digging sanitary sewer lines and or large ponds. The Summerville area or West Ashley around Bees Ferry are great locations to look.I have found buckets full of teeth and vertebrate. Good luck.
