Shealy's Boat Ramp In Ballentine

Anyone use his ramp much? I was by there early this morning and the gate was locked. Was wondering if he just started locking it at night or decided to just keep it closed.

Last time I was there it was earlier in the summer putting in early in the morning and he was there cleaning up the mess from kids that were hanging out there the night before. The gravel was all scattered from cars doing donuts in the parking lot too. It’s no wonder people don’t want to open their land up to the public at all for something like that. There’s no way those $5 launch fees can make up for the aggrivation.

I’m thinking he must at least be keeping it closed after dark? Anyone know?

I took a ride out there this afternoon and the gate was open. I was hoping to get some info but the “office” was locked up and there was no one around. I’ve never used that ramp before. Actually didn’t even know it existed until last month. I saw the drop box to pay the ramp fee but nothing about hours of operation.

BTW Tim, how does it work there? I didn’t see any envelopes. Do you write your tag number on a 5 dollar bill or is it just an honor system?

That ramp is only about 10 minutes from my house and will come in handy this fall for some late afternoon/early evening topwater runs to Ebert.

TEAM LAID BACK

Heading west on Dutch Fork road, take the first left past Anglers South onto Shadowood drive. Go past the Spirit of Lake Murray parking lot and it’s on the left. Across the cove from Spirit of Lake Murray.

Speaking of Anglers South. For those of you who hadn’t heard. The tackle shop closed up last week.

Jack, yea it’s just on the honor system. Just drop your $5 in the box. That’s only 5-10 minutes for me too and like you said, a great place to put in if you are going to fish Ballentine. I hate that ride to Hilton. The ramp isn’t the greatest when the water is down, but not a real issue with smaller boats like we have. I plan on stopping by this weekend and see if I can catch him there to see what his plans are for this fall.
