When do you usually start seeing deer shed antlers in your area?
As early as mid-January and I’ve seen bucks with their antlers as late as March.

Saw the dog pick one up out of the garden spot this afternoon. Looked to be a long spike.

What archer said. Sailfish, if you are going to look for sheds wait till you start seeing the first tiny buds of green leaves or just after the maples loose the red “blooms”. In my few findings it’s been a random luck thing and most of my antler finds have been from dead bucks or sheds that the dogs have brought home.
Lol No doubt. I’ve got Confederate roses that are putting leaves back on and blueberies starting to bloom! We’ll get hit with a cold snap come mid Jan-Feb. Was digging a ditch yesterday and ran up two snakes that were very active.
It might not be cold, but Dang if it it aint wet! Good time to see where water lays and make a plan for drainage when it dries good enough to work.
Deer are more sensitive to length of day than heat cold. However, heat/cold will affect daily movement. In cold they walk when its a bit warmer - day. in heat they lay all day and eat & move at night. antler growth, shed & rut = length of day

The big buck I almost hit this morning with the truck still had his antlers. I got a real close up trust me…
Scouted some today just because I happened to be out and about… Nothing doing. Checking the cameras, my guys haven’t shed yet either.
March
.
Found half an 8 this weekend. Dropped very recently since it was so clean. My dad found a spike a week ago too.
I think they’ve just started. I looked around a good bit this weekend and couldn’t find any more. I about ran over a 4 point and his two lady friends with the tractor too, he had both horns.

About 75% of the bucks I see on camera still have antlers. The two biggest survivors so far (decent 8pt and a nice 9pt) both still had their antlers as of three days ago.

They’re starting to show now
I wanna come scout at your place!

March 1st I still had some hanging on, but by March 6th, all my bucks have dropped.
Get out there and find some sheds!

I walked a few miles through the woods this weekend and only found one shed from last year that was chewed up by the squirrels…and some poison ivy apparently

Bucks can begin to shed by the end of December. Nearly all should have shed by now as new antlers will begin to grow soon. That’s 50 years of experience and seeing big “does” shot in December.
