I was wondering what type of rigs you are using to fish for sheepheads around docks and pilings as well as some of the near shore reefs.
The ones that I have caught have been below a float with a small extra strong very sharp hook.

for small fish, owner mosquito 1 … bigger ones owner mosquito 2/0
Not an expert, but I go with what’s basically a drop shot rig: tie on a hook with a palomar knot and leave about 8 to 10 inches of tag line hanging off. Clip a split shot on that tag end, put on your fiddler crab (or whatever) and go.

I use 8-10 lb braid with a 30 lb leader tied to a 3/4 oz. jig head (now that they are legal again) wielding a fiddler crab!! You can feel the fish breath on it!!

I use 15 pound braid line, and use about an 8 inch 40lb flourocarbon leader with a small 1/0 j hook. Two split shots above the swivel, just enough to get it to the bottom. If current is strong, use one or two more split shots. Getting to the bottom is key. Braid line is a must around pilings and docks
