Sheepheads

Has anyone been lately for sheep head?Just got a new boat and am going to try for some next week.

I’m getting a new (and first) boat soon! Keep us updated on if you catch anything! Good luck!

A couple of my buddies from school and I have been on them lately. These were from a few weeks ago.

Nice sheeps.

Oysters for bait?

Mainly clams and mussels for bait but oysters mixed in there as well. Slowww to bite in all this cold weather.

How did you bait with the clams and mussels? Do you just use the meat or is the shell attached? I have just used fiddlers and they can be tough to find this time of year.

I usually freeze them in the shell and let them thaw a little before Baiting the hook.

They’re too crumbly if you try to hook them frozen but too juicy if they’re completely thawed…like mama bears porridge, just right.

Cut them out of the shell and into smaller pieces.

Have you been able to catch Any fiddler crabs at all when it’s cold and overcast? If so, please unveil your techniques.

When I get the chance to get out, my time is pretty tight. I mostly rely on the local bait shop to have them in. Since I live 3 1/2 hrs from the coast, I try to get more time on the water. The few places that I have looked on the shore for them this winter, I have not seen any. That is why I would like to have an alternative plan/bait.

I think you need temperature around 80 to find fiddlers?

Nope, you can find them at Haddrells right now!

That’s good. I called a bait shop in Bluffton and he cannot get any. He said he usually gets them from Florida, but it has been too cold down there even for him to get a supply.

How do you attach clams to a hook? I have heard that is a good bait, but the one time I tried it, they just fell off like chicken livers!
