Sheepies 2/8

Just waking up this morning and was trying to figure out if I was dreaming …or did I just spend yesterday getting sunburn, drinking a few beers and catching fish off the coast while fishing in a tee shirt in the middle of Feb?? Found a few pics on my phone, so it really happened!

Saw the weather forecast for yesterday and couldn’t stand it, so I decided to play hookie and head down with a friend and give the sheeps a try. A little nippy when we first put in, but warmed up nicely as the day went on.

Of course, we caught a lot of bsb, but did manage some sheepies too, including this one that my friend put in the boat after only about 30 min of fishing. Biggest of the day and his very first sheepshead ever.

In the end we wound up with 10 sheeps and kept a few that we invited to dinner back in Columbia.

Also caught a couple of what would have been keeper size black drum that I would have loved to try, but I didn’t know what the minimum size was at the time, so we released them.

If you have an android powered phone there is a regulations app for 99 cents. I think page 7 has the saltwater species. It’s something that might be helpful in the future!

I have got to get down there and try my hand at sheeps. As for the drum, not sure what the legal size is but they are very tasty.

Thanks! I do have a Droid and will get that app. Knowing how the regs change, I sure hope there’s a daily update.

Actually, once we caught the fish, I went to the DNR site and was trying to rush and kept hitting the wrong keys and got frustrated, so I just said, “**& it, let’em go” and put the phone away.

Then we got the second one…deja vu all over again.

DFreedom, as someone who only recently started fishing for them, take it from me.

Instead of getting into sheephead fishing…do yourself a favor and head downtown and buy you some crack cocaine…at least they have re-hab for that

Ha Ha, too funny but crack makes you stupid and I can’t afford to lose any brain cells. As I have never caught one, sheeps are on my to do list for 2012.

Tim, thanks for the invitation fishing Wednesday. When are we going again!?!?

Nice. Still hoping to catch some sheeps in 2012
