reelfish01 put his boat back in the water after winter maintenance so we rolled out early to try some sheeps. wanted to go to gth but the weather was sloppy, with fuel prices and no recent reports we hated to make the run. grabbed waterboy and nick along with 3pts of fiddlers and it didn’t take long for the starving bsb’s to wipe us out! we caught them the size you would catch in 100’. (we were in 30’) kept 12 good sheeps and let a good many smaller ones go. Eric dropped down a dive cam he rigged and we watched the sheeps profile in front of the lens. Viz was great but the bottom temp was 55deg and the surface was still 58. had a good day and back at the hill by 1pm.

this may be JWS #s,not sure. move over Jordan. We should take our videos to the safmc meetings! 5 bsb’s, really. That one proposal shows just how out of touch they are!
Nice video Eric. I kept expecting it to get wrapped up on some of the rebar and then see a diver come down to retrieve it 5 minutes later. That was some great viz for such a shallow site.

It is a GoPro Hero, which is the same camera that most surfers and skydivers use. It is a tiny camera that comes with a waterproof housing and several optional mounts. I put an adhesive mount on a 2 lb dive weight and rigged up a harness to send it to the bottom. I had no idea what I was shooting at the time. I just dropped it to the bottom and hoped it didn’t get hung up. It’s not as cheap as other cameras out there (about $250), but it takes great pictures and 1080p video. I’ve installed a mount on the top of my spear gun (Vic from Low Country Scuba gave me the idea) so I’m hoping to have some better footage once we’re allowed to start fishing again for the endangered grouper. If only I can come up with enough beer money to get someone to leak out some more super-secret grouper numbers…
Nice video man, pretty awesome right? Here is another example of a hero gun mounted. Be easy, this was my first one, and I’m looking into better lenses for U/W as well as a kick-stand for my gun. Enjoy! And to beat everyone to it, I use zip ties to strap live lobster to my stringer, its fast, and keeps you from having to carry a bag! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dhzya4FuUkc

Very cool video vmdupuis. I have a very similar setup on my gun. A kickstand would be great for videos like that. I only freedive so I don’t have time to set up shots like that around here. Keep the vids coming.
