Guys, I want to take the kids fishing this weekend if the weather is good. They are a bit young to take to the nearshore reefs in my boat, so I was thinking about trying sheepshead at the jetties. But my question is, are they there in any real numbers now or have they mostly moved to the nearshore reefs? If they are there, should I fish them deep at the jetties (i.e., fish 10 yards or so off the rocks) rather than right up on the rocks? Thanks!
I haven’t fished the jetties in a while, but all of the sheephead that I have caught around the rocks are right up on the rocks.

You ever fish them at the jetties during winter months?
To be honest, I can’t remember. I usually fish for sheephead around bridge pilings or standing on groins off the beach. I always catch them either directly on the rocks or right next to the piles. I should really fish for them more. My favorite inshore eating fish.
Occamm did you get any sheeps? We R dieing to go but have a haul. H20 only 48deg. How did it go?

I didn’t end up going. Family emergency. Would’ve been a good day to go on Sunday. I may try again in a couple of weeks and will certainly post the results, good or bad.
I used to catch sheepshead at the jetties from November to March, but best in Nov-Dec
Sheeps are biting in the creeks and rivers…just work as much encrusted, nasty structure as you can. You’ll find em…Dont need to go to jetties.
