Sheepshead Fishing Next Weekend

I will be down next Saturday for the boat show and to try my hand at Sheepshead. Can I get some pointers? This will be my first time ever and I have no idea or understanding except…dont put your fingers in their mouth! lol

They are actually really easy to fish and catch. The only hard part is finding them. When you find them fish the lightest Carolina rig the conditions allow about 8 inches in length. I use a slow controlled drop with my bait going down current if there’s is any current. This keeps your rig from tangling and a slower longer presentation throughout the water column. I like to make contact with the structure I’m fishing or bottom and then reel it up about 6 inches and I jig it up and down real slow so I always have tension, I will work top to bottom like this. You will figure out what your fishing pretty quick so when all of a sudden you got extra weight set the hook. Stay cocked and ready the entire time because they are quick. For baits any shellfish works and don’t be afraid to chum the up if they are barely biting. Expect to lose tackle and bait, if your getting hung up or popped off in structure your in a good spot

Very helpful info! Thank you!

Fish structure at low tide with lots of growth. Follow 40’s advice.

You aren’t going to find very many large fish inshore this time of year. You will find a lot of dinks though.
