Does anyone know what rigs/gear would be best for catching sheepshead inshore and nearshore? Thanks!
15lb braid to 12lb fluoro with as little weight as possible to get you to the structure…1/0 live bait Owner hook topped with whatever bait you feel is best for sheeps (fiddlers, clams, oysters, barnacles or paper clips)…
I use 2000 to 4000 model spinning rigs with a 7’ medium light action rod…

Baitcaster, 8-17#, medium-heavy, fast-tip graphite rod, 17# clear mono, enough split shot to keep it down, and a 2/0 Mosquito. Don’t set the drag too tight when using small hooks like this, though, as many hookups are in the lips. You have to work the fish to the surface. No horsing him, or you’ll rip through the lips. Others may disagree, but this has worked very well for me.

Another detail that Paul mentioned: one-piece rod. Very important, IMO.

Thanks for all of the great advice! I’ve never caught one of those, so I’m hoping to change that this weekend. Gotta stop by the angler now and grab some crabs.

i’ve seen sells in the thick stuff snatchin em out with a rod in each hand. i bet he don’t use no stinking drag.
LOL. Roger that. I don’t think you can use drag in that jungle. You’ll lose more to the structure there than to the hook pulls.

That sounds very interesting! Maybe a medium action Louisville slugger will do the trick.
