Ok I admit, I am a noob. I have been trying to fish for some sheeps for a while now to no avail and apparently I need some help. I read various articles and posts and reading is getting me about nowhere. I apparently need some more in-depth help. I feel like I have tried what everyone says. I have fished multiple different bridges, pilings, transmission towers, old docks, etc on the Ashley, Cooper and Wando. So far it has netted me a whopping 0 (yes zero) fish. I am ok with not catching fish because I need to learn how to feel them, but I have pretty much zero luck even losing my fiddlers.
Any advice would be appreciated, I’m not asking for trade secrets or secret honey holes, but I have to do better than I have been. I fish from a small boat so the nearshore reefs (and maybe the jetties) are not options.
I am doing a sheep seminar Wed 4-9 at Miler Country Club for the Summerville Saltwater fishing club. You are more than welcome to come and ask questions.
Not a big sheep guy, but I am pretty sure they are just starting to move back in from the nearshore reefs. They move out there to spawn Feb-Apr. usually. You may not be having any luck because they aren’t there! Once again, I am not sure, but this is what I am guessing!
You really have to pay attention to the line more than the tip of the rod,if you are fishing near a piling,or trees, the line will likely move from side to side and not down like any other bite.
Saltfisher, I’ve caught quite a few sheeps, mostly at the rocks in Fall. When I started…I went out when the bite was supposed to be hot, but got skunked on sheeps, only caught reds. A guy told me it was because of the full moon, so I waited and went back the next weekend at about half-moon and tore them up. You think it was coincidence, maybe not holding my mouth right the first time, or is there something to the full moon killing the sheep bite?
Bwulmer…I am not sure. I pretty much fish for them all winter and spring and somedays are just better than others but have never matched it to a moon phase. I fish a lot of the same areas and it just seems that some days they eat better at one spot versus another, Fished a couple days ago on a dock that has been really good but that day we only got 2…moved to another structure a few miles away and the bite was steady. Some days at one place, fiddlers work, go a bit down river and shrimp works best , move again and the bait that works is oysters.

Now that makes more sense. Sounds like I need to carry more variety of bait. That's something I didn't do. Thanks for the tips!
