30$ Wally-world special…if I had ever caught one !!
I don’t fish out of a yak, but I use a 6’6" Shimano Clarus medium heavy spinning rod, with a Shimano Sahara 4000 spooled with 20lb PowerPro.
I don’t know but it sounds like a hoot… Wouldn’t it be like any other rod if it’ll work on a boat it’ll work in a yak???
He took the jugbelly clouser like an anemic sea trout on crack…
For me at least, I don’t care what kind of rod I have. I just need to find the sheepshead first. Say I’m in the Stono trolling for trout and see a dock in 5 ft of water. Should I throw a crab in at the base of the deepest piling? Should I look for deeper water or perhaps pilings for large bridges? Can I catch them on shrimp and mullet? Are sheepshead back into the creeks yet? This is my first full season with a kayak and salt water access so I’m very curious.

Let the water warm up a bit more, then the sheeps should definitely be here. Wherever you’re fishing, look for structure (i.e. docks, bridge pilings, etc.) that has barnacles/oysters on them - if it’s a fairly new dock, keep moving. Have something in your yak that can bust up the oysters (mini-sledge hammer comes to mind), knock some off to “chum” the water, drop a fiddler to the bottom, and wait. If you don’t have a bite in 5 - 10 minutes, move to another piling or another location. If they’re at home, you’ll know very soon.
If you need any other tips, send me an email.
if you put in the wando on the going out tide at the 41 bridge and fish around dentys there are tons of sheepshead in the area

I think I may plan a trip to the old RR bridge on the Cooper this Sunday pending the weather. If it looks good I will post an invite thread in a few days.

It looks like it. I can’t fine anywhere on the downtown side to put in. I would only consider the trip if the weather and wind are nice enough for the 2 mile paddle across the wando and cooper intersection. Of course I wouldn’t go alone so I would be looking to drag some poor fools willing adventurers with me.

I can’t go this weekend because of a Scout camping trip, but give me a yell sometime in the future. I’m always looking for someone to paddle and fish with.
I’ve been getting grief from my wife about the number of trips by myself. I think she’s worried that the insurance company will be slow to pay if they can’t find a body:imp:
Seriously, though much less risky paddling with a buddy.

Heh looks like you are living up to your name. If the weather is bad then I will just stay in the creeks anyways. I will let you know if I am making this trip again sometime.

Call me tomorrow during day and let me know (before 2pm). Cant make up my mind what to do … been watching the wind situation. I went by Char. Marine today and they have fiddlers!
Had a great time with ya’ll, even thou we didn’t catch many fish.
Yeah, I should know something by then. Whats wrong with the wind? Looks like its going to be down for a change.
Had a good time too, ready to do it again. Think Norm needs to keep his fish bag at home, I believe it brings bad luck.
