sheepshead

been wearing out the sheepshead in MI

Nice looking fish. Inshore or offshore?

inshore at my dock

very nice!!!

I remember a few years back doing an underwater inspection of Pier Bravo or Charlie at the Naval Weapons Station. Visibility was about 2 maybe 3 ft and I was scraping oysters off the piles for inspection. This sheephead comes up about 3 ft below me, rolls over on his side and starts eating the oysters that I’m scraping off. He was massive, ridiculously big. His mouth was at least as big as mine. He followed me around underwater for about 30 minutes until he was full.

yet ive NEVER caught a sheep at either of the weapons station piers as much as i go there!!! dont doubt for 1 second ones that big hang around there…just smart enough to not get caught.

try and big mud crab. they will hit it everytime

Is it legal to fish the piers of the naval weapons station?

Three-fourths of the Earth’s surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.

No. It is not legal to fish there, at least not for civilians. I was diving the pier for work and I assume that OhioNavyNuke is part of the Nuclear Propulsion Training Unit?

The really big sheepshead get really smart it seems and don’t really ever want to take bait.

narcosis…yup i definately spend many, many hours of my time there and yes thats how i can get back there (active military). id love to do a dive there just to see how much is sitting there ignoring my line. i did talk to someone that said theyve done a dive around the piers before though and they said sheephead at about every piling…was that you?

NavyNuke, wasn’t me you spoke to. I haven’t been there since 08’ I think. I did have my RadCon training on the barges and dove around the training subs with my TLD. I think the big sheephead I saw was on Charlie.
