sheepsheads Ashley River

Has anyone caught any sheepsheads in the Ashley past Cosgrove towards the plantations?

I have heard the further you go away from the salt and the closer you get to the fresh the sheepshead don’t follow, give me a yell if you start to catch them … I wouldn’t think you could catch some on the Ashley River Bridge

How is the Ashley for fishing in general? Just moved near Ashley and had someone tell me that it is usually slow. Can anyone confirm good fishing anywhere? For what? Thanks

Many go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.

i went out Sunday and didn’t catch anyhting on the Ashley. I was fishing off a dock so I can’t speak for the rest of the area.

The last week or so I have been catching 5-6 trout each trip on the Ashley River near Duncan’s Boat Harbor. Only 2 keepers, so far. I fish a private dock right next to the Cosgrove bridge and have been catching them on the outgoing tide… Also seen a few reds tailing in these really high tides on the Ashley. I’ve thrown everything in my arsenal at them with no luck though. Caught 3 nice sized blue cats too, only that was just before the temperatures started dropping.

P.S. I used a ton of cut bait and caught nothing but stingray and those 3 cats… I switched to live mud minnows under a popping cork and have had much better luck.

i heard the same thing about the ashley on these message boards and started thinking twice about my bad luck. i just moved here a year ago and started fishing on the ashley cause it was closer to the house.

i’m sure there are plenty of good spots to hit but i didnt really get a lot of action and i started going elsewhere. it could be that my technique has gotten a little more localized but ive had better results since i moved on.

if i were to go back though i would start at those creek mouths on the right bank between then the west bank between the cosgrove and spring street bridges.

this should just read on the right bank. dang i need an editor.

I caught my 2nd slot red fish on the banks. Fished Cosgrove (7) bridge and caught 4 trout including 2 keepers. Just fished again today from a canoe and caught 7 trout and my friend caught 3 because he was staying on the bottom too long. Only 2 were keepers. Anyway, all my fish were with a popping cork and doa shrimp w/procure scent.
