I tried for them Saturday on lake Marion with no luck. All I caught was abt a dozen bream. I know they bit the best before the full moon last year. But I believe with the cold water temps there gonna be a little behind this year.

Going Wednesday and Thursday for crappie in the shallow water. I will report when I return. I still believe it to be a little early with the cold and so much water.

Crappie are shallow. I caught them in 2ft of water this past weekend.

that seems pretty shallow! what structure/area do you look for to find them at that water depth? thanks for the info and glad somebody is catching a few!

thanks for the input everyone! also wanted to add that i saw many times fish splashing in the hydrilla. caught a quick glimpse of one and it looked to be a smaller size fish (crappie/shellcracker). not sure if they were feeding or what have you. any ideas?

I fish around cypress trees. I you can find trees with grass or pads around them, key on those.

Haven’t seen many ‘blackface’ shellcrackers in the past 5 days…which leads me to believe they are not in full blown bedding mode. Moon Phase: Waxing Gibbous Moon…so we are a bit early and should be building into good activity in the next 7 days…just my two cents. Haven’t even seen strong bass bedding activity…they’re relatively shallow, but not full on yet.

Well someone wants to brag alittle…

Can’t brag, just show. From the Hatchery Ditch…look to be still staging.
