We are officially into shellfish season as of Oct 1. I have been scouting some areas as I want to find some more mussel and clam beds to pick this year in the area of Folly/Morris.
I found 72* water temps at low tide today and am waiting for the temp to drop just a bit more to start picking in a few weeks.
ole rap has claim to those home waters more than i do, hopefully we’ll run across each other and scratch some clams again soon. i found a nice mess up a little ditch off the main river last season
I wish Cole was still as good as it used to be, but the blown out section really changed things a couple years back
Block Island creek is a sleeper, one of my favorite spots for big singles when it’s going to be a big minus
I wait till 65, then it’s worth running a couple pots for stonies too
PS i’m getting a jet dock that Johnny is letting me tie off at his place soon, that might kick me in the ass to get on the water more regularly than life has allowed lately
I have found some nice specimens in block island creek back in the day. That’s where Chris Mitchell and I were picking about 15 years ago and the boat floated off while we were clamming up a ditch because we neglected to put the anchor out.
I have been running my traps and loading up on big blue crabs recently. Going to put them out again in the next week.
Julie and I picked out a pound of meat on Sunday and she made an awesome roasted corn and crab chowder, it’s about the only thing we do with it aside from cakes or just lemon butter and down the hatch… other things we’ve tried didn’t do it justice, simple is best.
