Shem Creek 8/14 (long)

I tried fishing in Shem Creek today.
My bait died overnight, despite changing out the water and using an aerator. When I got to the ramp I placed my trap and started cast netting for some fresh bait. No luck. High tide. I tried artificial for a little while. Then, I paddled down to Wando Shrimp and bought a half a pound of heads on for something like 82 cents.

I caught a menhaden and cut him up for bait. I really don’t know if it was a him. I am just guessing. If I am cutting up a fish for bait, I guess I alway suppose it’s a him. I also caught a spot and cut him up too.

I tried under the bridge for a while, getting my bait stole by some spots. Then I caught a small red drum, redfish, spottail bass, puppy drum. It was about 10" or so. First one in the yak and first one in SC.

I moved along and placed the minnow trap in a feeder creek with the menhaden head in it. I got a dozen or so mud minnows. Fished there for a while and had some shrimp stolen.

It was heating up, so I tried a dock that Patrick told me about. I had two fish grab my shrimp off the bottom and take of around the pilings. Not at once. They were separate casts. I later caught two small grouper at that dock. Like 8" or so.

Moving along, I also caught a 10" lady fish and a few more spots at another location. The I ran out of bait and quite fishing for the day. I caught what I consider to be a lot of fish, just unable to land anything of size. I had a good time. I was out on the water from 9-4.

I later saw Dolphin Dave in a motor boat while I was working on a friend’s sailboat. He’s a good guy. I just replaced my straps with the straps from Time Out. They are great. I had the cheap ones. These are about $20 for the pair and they are worth it. I don’t worry that my yak is going to come off of my car anymore. Thanks Dave. I should have let you talk me into them when I bought the yak. I think you should jack up the price of the yaks $2
