i have discovered that my son is developing the same love of fishing that i have…very welcome. as we haven’t received spousal permission for a motorized boat yet i’ve been able to outfit our two seater otter by old town for very comfortable fishing. with the addition of two bait buckets, a smaller cast net, smaller tackle boxes, smaller cooler and a 3 rod holder crate to the back we have had a ball for the last two weekends. on our first weekend trip we saw a manatee in a small offshoot creek from shem creek. my 6.5 y.o. son hooked into a few slot reds and one 24-26" that towed the kayak around before breaking off his old zebco 303. the next weekend he lost another large red as well as a respectable flounder due to the questionable drag and mystery line on that old rod. his rod has since been replaced with a nice spinning outfit with dependable 12lb. test and a working drag. the shrimp were literally jumping into the boat at low tide as we paddled into the creek but this didn’t show as well in the picture as i would have liked. this small red was the only fish pic i took as the larger fish broke him off and for 3/4 of the trip i forgot that camera phone meant that it could TAKE pictures
Thats great to get out there and enjoy some yak fishing with the little guy! Keep it up.
