Shem Creek Surprise

Only had a few hours to fish yesterday so I decided to head out to Shem creek. It was in the high 90’s and I wasn’t really hopeful but I figured since it was about to storm that maybe I would do well. I got out there around 3:30 pm and started fishing the rising tide. Stayed near the docks and fished MM on a carolina rig hoping to catch some flounder. The water temp was 83.9. Caught a nasty toad fish then 2 flounder that were only 10 to 12 inches. It started to rain and the bite kicked off. Hooked 2 small reds that were 11 and 13 inches. I was about to hit the road around 7 when my rod bent in half! I almsot dropped my other rod that I was working on and my stakeoutpole didn’t stop the imminent sleigh ride! It ran straight for the dock and my drag was screaming! I tightened it up and held up my leg against the dock to prevent myself from being pulled underneath. It tried running around the dock but I was able to pull it back out. Threw out the net and yanked him in. Needless to say I was surprised. 25 inch red caught on a MM. Scale said 8 1/2 pounds but I don’t know how accurate that is cause its a cheapo. I was a bit frustrated cause all of my fish were either too small or big to keep!

To Small to Big

Problem is it should be a Beer can in your Malibu Cup Holder

It is amazing how Shem Creek has so many fish with all the boat traffic it gets

Lol I leave the beer at home cause with my luck I would get hammered and fall off. Shem creek has impressed me a few times. I’ve been fishing the banks with tons of kayaks and paddle boarders floating by along with boats and I would still pull in decent sized flounder. Never saw the reds hit that hard though.

I wouldn’t have expected that in Shem Creek either. Nice!

Try that now with all the paddle boarders and kayaks.
