Jeezzz. Did Naval Intelligence show up and steal you computer? This started off as a good read.

The more we just complain…the more things stay the same.

If you were off Waterfront Park it just might have been one of the big azz albacore spotted off there?

C’mon people, i was serious. Enough of you here get far enough offshore. And as i mentioned in the other thread, i have it on good authority that it was not albacore but DNR in disguise (inspecting for circle hooks)

yes. but only from another submarine.

When I’m fishing the lower Cooper sometimes wake will come out of no where and I always wondered about it no boats or dolphins or anything. Then one day we saw one underwater and now we know that the subs serve going through

I’m a high class redneck.

Fishing is a delusion entirely surrounded by liars in pfgs and buffs.

Subs go in and out of the Cooper River all the time. We never see them, but just look at the sub station between Westvaco and Bushy Park boat landing. Pass one day and there will be 5 or 6 subs, then the next day there will be 2. Either they leave in the middle of the night or they submerge and come in and out(which is what I would guess). Had an older fella tell me one time that he was out deep dropping for swords years back and had a sub resurface not to far from his boat…I believe he said at least 3 drops of pee came out… haha

Subs aren’t allowed to navigate inside the “Safe water line” unless they are surfaced with lookouts, radar and escort vessels.

Subs don’t submerge until they are WELL offshore, like 12 HOURS offshore. Very small chance of anyone here going far enough offshore to pick one up on sonar.

Only the Russian Subs do that.

really? I dont know much about them… guess i’ve really never cared to look… So then how do the subs get in and out of the sub station up in the cooper? I’ve fished that river my whole life and worked on a boat in that river for 6 years and never seen one just cruising out… Have any of you? I never knew any of that info though. Thanks for educating me so I dont sound like a retard in future discussions… haha

I worked as a 1st mate/engineer on a charelston harbor tour boat for 2 years and never heard of a sub coming thru the harbor. We were on a 100 ton boat going back and forth from ft. sumter 3 times a day. I would like to believe it does happen though. Maybe that would explain my random drag ripping bites between the yorktown and castle pinkey.

There are no submarines stationed in Charleston anymore, thats why you never see them. The “subs” you see in the Cooper are actually old boats that have been converted to semi-permanently moored training platforms for the Navy’s future nuclear operators. They don’t move without a lot of help, believe me.

Just pullin your leg man. The last Sub left Charleston in 1994. It was front page news in the P&C. There was big article in the P&C back then because politics played a big role in the BRAC/closure of the Charleston Naval Base.

See Wolfie’s response. It’s the only accurate one in this thread.

I have a nice photo of two subs passing in opposite directions in the harbor. I was on a tug heading for one of them. That was a long time ago.

Here’s one passing Ft. Sumter:
