Need some outside input. Ive been fishing mostly with shimano, but I want to get a new set of reels and am trying to decide between Shimano Tyrnos or the AVETS. Like I said ive been using shimano for a while, but I havent ever seen or held an AVET. Anybody have the AVET’s and have also fished with the shimanos have any ■■■■■■■■?
Avet makes a nice quality reel for the money. Fished them a bunch live baiting out in Southern Cal chasing albacore, schoolie yellowfin and bluefin, and yellowtail. Depending on where your looking to buy them from if you decide to, I know a lot of the tackle shops out in California put them on sale quite often because they are made out there. Maybe check online (The Longfin is a good one)

I got a couple of Avets last year and they are great reels for large sharks; two speed and large drag capacity combined with being lightweight compared to, say, an International.
Never used the the avets, but I love my Tyrnos’s. I have 6 of them and I have used them for everything from trolling, jigging, to yanking grouper out of their holes. I have 3 10’s, 2 12’s and a 30. All single speeds.
With that said I have heard that the single speed Tyrnos is going away. Soon enough you’ll have to buy the 2-speed, which is more $$$. Good luck.
